Doggie Olympics Rules


Doggie Fashion Show

Owners bring their dogs dressed up in their own costume. Open to all sizes and ages.

Objective
To show off puppy personalities and doggie style.

Rules
·         Dog will take turns walking or being carried down the runway by the owner.
·         Dogs must be on a leash, even if carried.

Scoring
Most Adorable ~ They may not be glamorous, but they are loving and sweet.
Best Theme ~ Based on the theme: Spring Fling
Best Look-A-Like ~ You know what they say over time... 
Funniest ~ A class to judge the dog (and owner) on their entertaining attire.

Judges’ Instructions
Set up red carpet runway.
Place judges in the center of the arena facing the end of the runway.

Rip Van Winkle Sleep-off

Dog lying down the longest without moving (up to 60 sec.) wins. Heads cannot flop, ears cannot wiggle or tails wag. Owners can pet, stroke and coo to their dogs during competition. Open to all sizes and ages.

Objective
To see which dog can lie down the longest without moving (up to 60 sec.).

Rules
·         Heads cannot flop, ears cannot wiggle or tails wag.
·         Owners can pet, stroke and coo to their dogs during competition.
·         Owners can supply a blanket or towel to lie on.
·         Dogs must be on a leash.

Scoring
During each 60-second period, each dog that moves will be eliminated until the winners are determined.

Ball Lottery

Dogs retrieve balls that have been numbered. The dog that collects the highest total wins.

Objective
To see which dog can earn the most points retrieving balls.

Rules
·         Balls will be laid out at one end of the course. Dogs will be assigned a home position.
·         On the signal of the MC, the dogs will retrieve as many balls (one at a time) as possible during the time allotted and return them to their home position.
·         Owners cannot touch or kick the balls until they’ve been carried by the dog past to the home position, but owners can accompany their dogs to the balls.
·         Dogs must be on a leash.

Scoring
Add the value of each ball retrieved by each dog.

Judges’ Instructions
Draw home base line where dogs should drop off the balls.
Note that the balls will be reused after each group.

Awards
First, second, third for most points (not most balls) retrieved.

Tennis balls (same color)

Peanut Butter Lick

Who can empty the spoon of peanut butter the fastest? Did we mention the spoon’s handle is in the owner’s mouth? No hands allowed! Owner kneels on the ground and on the signal of the MC puts the padded spoon in their mouth. As soon as the dog has finished, stand up and hold the spoon in the air. Spoons must be empty of peanut butter. First three win. Divided into two height categories.

Objective
To see which dogs in each size category can empty the spoon of peanut butter the fastest.

Rules
·         No hands allowed!
·         Owner kneels on the ground. On the signal of the MC, he or she puts the peanut butter spoon in their mouth.
·         As soon as the dog has finished, stand up and hold the spoon in the air. Spoons must be empty of peanut butter.
·         Dogs must be on a leash.

Scoring
First three in each size category win: first, second, third place.

Judges’ Instructions
Divide dogs into categories by size: up to 22", and over 22” at withers (top of the shoulder).

Small dogs: First, second, third
Large dogs: First, second, third

Red Light, Green Light

You played it as a child, now play it with your dog! Owners heel their dogs on green and sit their dog on red.

Objective
To see which dog can play the game by heeling on green and sitting on red.

Rules
·         Dogs will line up at one end of the arena. When the MC says “green,” dogs and owners will walk forward. When the MC says “red” dogs must stop and sit. Dogs who do not sit on red will be eliminated until the last three remain.
·         Dogs must be on a leash.

Scoring
During the game, each dog that moves will be eliminated until the winners are determined.

Judges’ Instructions
Draw line for the owners and dogs to begin from.

First, second, third.

Temptation Tower

In this race against the clock, you have one minute to stack as many biscuits as you can into a tower of tasty dog treats. But there is an added challenge! You must build this tower of treats in front of your dog! If your dog eats any of the biscuits, you and your dog will be eliminated from the game. If your tower falls down, you can rebuild until time runs out. The winner is the dog and handler team with the most number of biscuits in their tower!

Objective
To see which dog can earn the most points retrieving balls.

Rules
·         Owners have one minute to stack as many biscuits as they can into a tower of tasty dog treats.
·         Dogs who eats any of the biscuits will be eliminated from the game.
·         If your tower falls down, you can rebuild until time runs out.
·         Dogs must be on a leash.

Scoring
The winner is the dog and owner team with the most number of biscuits in their tower.

Judges’ Instructions
Dogs must be seated or lying 12 inches from the paper plate with their tower.

Awards
First, second, third for tallest uneaten tower.
